Dear Ms. Goos,

The Laurelhurst Community Club Board of Trustees appreciates the excellent briefing on the February 3, 2004 Seattle Public Schools Capital and Operating Levies provided by Eric Liu of the Schools First campaign at our December meeting. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to endorse the levies.

Our Board of Trustees studied the specifics of the contents of the levies prior to the December meeting in materials included in the agenda packets. At the meeting, Mr. Liu provided additional background information and answered questions.

While we were disappointed that the School District did not seek input from neighborhoods as to the contents of the levy proposals and that upgrading of our dilapidated 50-year-old gym at Laurelhurst Elementary School was not included in the capital proposal, we nonetheless recognize the importance of the operating and capital funds that will be provided. The levies represent an important investment in our schools and our children.

The Laurelhurst community has a long history of supporting school levies. We are pleased to support the February 2004 levies and hope that you will let us know of opportunities for our neighbors to get involved in the campaign to pass these measures.
