RE: Laurelhurst Elementary School Community Playground Renovation Project Grant Application
Dear Department of Neighborhoods:
On behalf of our community, the Laurelhurst Community Club Board of Trustees has unanimously endorsed the Laurelhurst Elementary School Community Playground Renovation Project. We appreciate the vision and initiative of the project’s steering committee in its preliminary planning efforts and goal of creating safe play areas for our children with updated and innovative play equipment.
At its December 2005 meeting, the Laurelhurst Board of Trustees was very impressed with the project presentation by PTA Co-President Coco Sherman, PTA member Melissa Kane and Laurelhurst Elementary School Principal Kathy Jolly. We had an opportunity to review photographs of the play areas, view the deteriorating condition of the asphalt and the dangerous surface areas and the dilapidated and outdated condition of playground equipment. We were especially concerned about playground safety. We discussed the recommended steps to transform the playground areas into a school and community asset. The project’s steering committee and the Laurelhurst PTA have done an excellent job in planning for this project to meet a critical need.
We urge you to provide matching funds to allow this project to move forward. Our Board of Trustees and members of the Laurelhurst community look forward to working on the project as it moves forward. Thank you for considering the position of the Laurelhurst Community Club Board of Trustees.
Sincerely,
Jeannie Hale, President
