RE: Master Planning Process for Children’s
Dear Steve,
Last night, representatives from Children’s Hospital met with a few neighbors to present background information about future expansion plans. At the meeting, one of Children’s representatives mentioned that they were planning on hosting a community meeting on the topic in May. Over two years ago, the Laurelhurst Community Club and Children’s agreed to host what we were going to call something like “Master Planning 101” for the community with the involvement of the Department of Neighborhoods in preparation for the upcoming master planning process. The Community Club is still committed to doing that. We invite the Department of Neighborhoods to work with us and Children’s in cosponsoring this event.
As you are aware, the purpose and intent of the Major Institutions Code is, in part, to encourage significant community involvement and to provide the neighborhood with advance notice of the development plans of the major institution. The Community Club believes that we can best accomplish the purpose and intent of the Code by working together to educate our neighbors. If we are all a part of setting the time and location of the public meeting and setting the agenda, we can ensure a greater understanding of the process and opportunities for community involvement. Plus, we do not want this meeting to conflict with our Annual Neighbors Meeting or an Emergency Preparedness meeting that we are planning.
Please let us know if you would like to partner with us in hosting this important meeting.
Sincerely,
Jeannie Hale, President
